The Core Matter of Design // End of Life Plastic Manufacturing

A playful, hopeful, and reflective installation that uses ocean plastics and other end of life plastic as an alternative to concrete.

At Milan Design Week 2025, our first presentation of Pelagic.Earth — Contemporary building products and alternative manufacturing using ocean plastic and landfill-bound soft plastics.

An immersive space to reflect on how we value it and explore what fundamentally matters within good design.

Rooted in the idea that "waste is in the eye of the beholder" -  a cultural proposition. A misalignment of time and function and now a global crisis.  An industrial byproduct — a system out of balance.

So let’s reframe it.

Pelagic.Earth presents our mission and our model for sophisticated product, service, and system design. Let us give it meaning, connect global communities, stabilise markets, and reorient our waste management and industrial systems.

And let's do it at scale. Together.

Pelagic.Earth

Pelagic.Earth develops an alternative to concrete from ocean plastic and landfill-bound plastics. We do it at scale and through decentralised manufacturing. We work with communities and organisations facing the plastic crisis on the frontline to build a systems level solution together.

Philippa Abbott

Philippa explores the critical hypothesis of the future through design and systems thinking, applied in collaborative, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary, design practice. How do we restructure existing paradigms of the local and global systems of culture, society, economics and ecology?
